Revol Greens delays Minnesota greenhouse closure as rescue talks continue

A 30 September WARN revision postpones the Medford lettuce greenhouse's possible closure to 15–29 October. A deal has not been confirmed; about 89 jobs remain at risk.

Revol Greens has postponed the planned 4 October shutdown of its lettuce greenhouse in Medford, Minnesota, while it pursues a transaction that could keep the site operating. A 30 September notice filed with Minnesota regulators moves any potential closure and related job losses to the period from 15 to 29 October, if the transaction is unsuccessful.

The revised Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN), signed by interim chief financial officer Michaele Gobel, confirms that the earlier closure date was postponed. It does not confirm a sale, new financing, or a completed rescue. The company was still seeking a way to continue operations when the letter was filed.

The new timeline for the Minnesota facility

Revol Greens’ original August WARN notice warned that approximately 89 employees could lose their jobs if the site or company was not sold or did not receive additional funding before 4 October. The supplementary notice leaves the other terms of that original warning unchanged, except for the postponed timing.

The Medford greenhouse is a roughly 10-acre (4-hectare) climate-controlled lettuce operation, according to MPR News’ original reporting on the revised filing. The Minnesota site was the company’s first growing location, opening in 2017. Revol Greens also has a greenhouse operation in Texas, but the Minnesota postponement letter does not establish the status or timeline of that separate facility.

What the postponement means for customers and suppliers

The extension keeps open the possibility that the Minnesota growing asset, its workforce and related leafy-greens supply contracts can be preserved. For purchasers, logistics providers and greenhouse-service suppliers, however, the revised filing is a warning of a still-unresolved operational risk rather than evidence that production and deliveries are guaranteed beyond October.

In earlier company comments reported by MPR News, Revol Greens said weaker demand for lettuce amid a wider Cyclospora outbreak complicated financing discussions. The company said its own products were not implicated in the outbreak. Those statements describe the company’s explanation for its difficulties; they do not quantify the financial shortfall.

Next decision point

Whether an ownership, financing or other transaction can be completed before the revised risk window remains undisclosed. The company’s 30 September letter specifies a possible closure period, not an actual shutdown date. Further company announcements or an updated state notice would be needed to establish the outcome.

Key takeaways

  • Revol Greens postponed the planned 4 October closure of its Minnesota greenhouse.
  • The new conditional closure-and-layoff window is 15–29 October 2026; roughly 89 jobs remain potentially affected.
  • No completed rescue transaction or actual closure is established by the revised filing.
