Dutch chrysanthemum grower J&A Flowers is developing a further 3.1 hectares of greenhouse space next to its existing glasshouses on Scheeweg in De Lier. Grower cooperative VannoVa announced the extension on 17 September 2026, following an earlier building phase in 2024.
The new 3.1-hectare section is part of a much larger operation, not a 10-hectare new build. In an owner interview published by FloralDaily on 13 October, J&A Flowers described growing and processing chrysanthemums at one consolidated De Lier site of about 10 hectares.
LED lighting and climate systems in the new glasshouse
VannoVa says the extension is designed with LED lighting, an energy screen, air-treatment equipment and fogging. The structure connects directly to existing greenhouses and follows the design of the company’s 2024 construction phase, allowing the grower and its partners to reuse experience from that project.
In the October interview, co-owner Erwin van Luijk also discussed insect netting, climate screens and combined heat and power (CHP) units used by the broader operation. The CHP installations provide electricity, greenhouse heat and carbon dioxide for crop production. The equipment choices connect the expansion to the grower’s existing energy and crop-management strategy.
Consolidating cultivation and packing
The 13 October FloralDaily interview explains how the owners acquired adjacent plots to build one larger greenhouse block and bring packing activity together. J&A Flowers now processes its chrysanthemums through a single packing shed at the De Lier location, according to the owners.
For greenhouse operators, the project offers an example of adding capacity by connecting a new build to established growing and packing infrastructure. J&A Flowers is repeating a greenhouse design used in 2024 while integrating energy and climate-control equipment into the extension.
Space for Magnum, Maracuja and Airborne
The grower cooperative identifies Magnum and Magnum Yellow, bred by Deliflor, among the chrysanthemums accommodated by the extension. It also names Maracuja and Airborne from Dekker Chrysanten. VannoVa says Maracuja is being scaled up at J&A Flowers and Airborne is a new addition to its assortment.

After several years of expansion, management told FloralDaily that its next priority is to strengthen the organisation around the larger site. The 10-hectare description refers to the consolidated operation, while 3.1 hectares is the latest reported extension.
Key takeaways
- The latest De Lier greenhouse extension covers 3.1 hectares and adjoins existing J&A Flowers facilities.
- LED lighting, energy screens, air treatment and fogging are specified for the addition.
- An October owner interview describes approximately 10 hectares of cultivation and processing at the consolidated site; that is not the area built in this phase.
