Vectr Fresh has completed roof glazing on a 10-hectare semi-closed tomato glasshouse under construction in Oltenița, Călărași County, southern Romania, moving the project into technical installation and operational preparation.
HortiDaily’s September 25 interview with Vectr Fresh and project partners reports that commissioning is targeted for March 2027 and the first harvest is planned for May 2027. Both dates are forward targets, not completed milestones.
Construction shifts to technical systems
With roof glazing complete, the immediate work is to finish the remaining infrastructure, install and test technical systems, recruit and train the operating team, and prepare production procedures. Vectr Holdings’ first-party project announcement identifies Oltenița as the location and describes the facility as spanning 100,000 sq m.
The design is reported to include active heating and cooling, LED lighting across the growing area, automated drip irrigation and integrated climate controls. Rainwater and well water are planned as the main water sources, with treatment and reuse of drainage water. The project remains under construction and these systems should not yet be described as commissioned or operating.

What each named supplier is providing
Vectr Fresh said Richel adapted execution plans in response to site conditions, including periods of snow, rain and extreme heat. ICCO is identified as the Romanian subcontractor supporting local construction activities. The available reporting does not provide a complete division of construction responsibility beyond those roles.
For greenhouse management, Hoogendoorn Growth Management’s IIVO control system and Ageon’s GIOTTO system are named as the platforms intended to integrate growing-condition management. Viscon Group is identified as the supplier of three semi-automated packing lines for the post-harvest hall.
The project includes LED lighting, but the source does not identify the lighting manufacturer. It also describes robotic crop registration and automated data collection spanning production, quality, labour, yields, packing and maintenance without naming every technology provider.
Commercial signal and next milestones
If the construction and commissioning targets are met, the project would add a substantial block of high-technology tomato capacity in Romania, designed for year-round production. For growers, investors and suppliers, the next material checks are completion of technical installation, successful commissioning in March 2027 and evidence that the first harvest begins on the May 2027 target.
Vectr Fresh has described the project as an investment of more than €53 million. That figure is a company disclosure and should not be read as independent confirmation of capital spent to date.
