Cualin Quality plans to invest €12 million in a new 8.4-hectare high-tech glasshouse in Antas, Almería, expanding its controlled-environment tomato production during 2027.
The company says the new facility will become its eighth high-tech greenhouse and increase production capacity by about 20%.
In its September 24 announcement, Cualin said the project will be equipped with climate-control, resource-management, process-automation and advanced crop-monitoring systems.
The project adds 8.4 hectares of high-tech glasshouse capacity
The planned investment is significant both in physical scale and in the level of technology Cualin intends to deploy.
Cualin specialises in premium vine cherry tomatoes and said the expansion follows a 2025–2026 season that performed above its initial expectations. The company has not yet disclosed a detailed supplier list for the new greenhouse.
Why it matters
Almería is one of Europe’s most important protected-horticulture regions, and the project is notable because it adds a comparatively technology-intensive glasshouse operation rather than a routine low-tech expansion.
For greenhouse suppliers, the project creates a potential demand signal across climate control, irrigation, automation, monitoring and construction systems. For competing growers, the planned capacity increase is another sign that premium tomato producers are continuing to invest in controlled production and operational efficiency.
What remains unclear
Cualin has not yet published the final construction timetable, greenhouse technology suppliers, energy configuration or expected commissioning date.
